Wake Tech – Small Business Center

Wake Tech – Small Business Center

(music) Well, the industry that I was in prior,
was the luxury transportation business and I had been involved in that industry
very heavily for a little over 25 years. And um, in 2015 we sold that company and decided on
another company. There is the need for document storage, scanning and shredding for small businesses and
that’s my niche. I had two friends who that suggested Wake Tech for the small
business and they had asked me, they said, “Kerry do
you know about the program?” I said, “Not at all.” and what – how I came to them was I wanted
to write a business plan. I hadn’t done a business plan for 20 some
odd years in my previous company and there were a lot of folks out that would
help me but they charged a very hefty price for that. When I first came to Wake Tech, the first person
I met with Theresa Peaden. She answered my emails immediately, my phone calls
immediately, she was always there when I needed her.
she actually runs a small business center. I came to her and she put me in contact
with a fabulous man named Dan Blankenship. Well Dan has had years and
years of experience in the business sector and I came to him and said, “Dan I don’t know how to write a business
plan and I have to have one.” So Dan and I had spent nearly 40 hours tracking
everything but we finished that plan and that was the key to getting the SBA loan
’cause I had to convince the folks there that this was a viable business, it can make money, it is profitable, I need your money but I will pay it back
and I can pay it back. We started January 1st,
2016 with our first official day we were so excited! We’ve got a fantastic
warehouse space, a secured, we made it HIPAA compliant, it is in South Raleigh and we do all of
our document storage here, we do our scanning of documents and we do are
shredding here. So again we’re the life cycle of a
document — we can store it, we can scan it and then we can shred it,
when it’s destroyed data’s ready to go. I want to make sure that everyone knows
about the Small Business Center from Wake Tech: if you’re starting a business,
this is the first place you need to go, they have the resources there. The first
place that you need to start is with Theresa Peaden at Wake Technical College, the Small
Business Center, fantastic people!
