TMCC Business Plan Competition – How To Participate

Hey Jean, so I was walking around campus the other day and saw a sign saying “Open to all students. TMCC Business Plan Competition.” What is TMCC’s Business Plan Competition? I don’t understand that. Well, this is a competition designed to focus on the importance of developing a comprehensive
business plan. So, let’s say you have an idea for a business, this is going to help you bring
it to realization. So it’s a business plan competition and for all
employees? Students? TMCC High School students? Who can participate? The competition is open to TMCC students. Any full or part-time student, and the TMCC High School students. No faculty or staff. So, what I’m hearing is that what I need is I have to complete a business plan. I have
to have completed a plan. You need a business idea and a team. We encourage you to have an interdisciplinary team. And what that means is your team members could be somebody from business or graphic arts or culinary. Any other area within the school. O.K. So how exactly do I get into the competition? Where do I go to find that information? You can go to the business plan competition website. It’s B-P-C dot T-M-C-C dot e-d-u and there you’ll find
all the rules and the awards and also the registration information. When is the business plan competition? The business plan competition runs from October to
February. So registration is open in October and then the competition
finalizes in early February. And what if I win TMCC’s business plan competition? What do I win? Well, the top three teams earn scholarship money. So the top team would earn roughly $3,000 to apply towards their school the following semester. We also include swag bags for all the teams which includes products donated by local
businesses. O.K. So if I win the TMCC competition do I get to go on and compete in another competition? Absolutely. If you go on you can compete in the Nevada Governor’s Cup competition. And that one comes with prize money of $25,000 for first place. So in essence the TMCC business plan competition its kind of a dry run or practice
run to get me into the Governor’s Cup? Is that how it works? Correct, it is to help you become comfortable with process of creating a business plan and to help you refine it. Great.
