Kelly Macdonald On Dealing With a Lack of Confidence – EIFF 2018

You know, I was lucky
every time I got another job, but I’m pretty sure
this is what I’m cut out to do. So, in this film,
we’re following Agnes’ journey as she begins to find her own voice, something she was essentially
too scared to use before. So, I was interested,
how long did it take for you yourself to find your own voice, as an actor? – As an actor?
– Yeah. I mean, really, up until recently. I suffered from a lack of confidence
for a long time because I hadn’t
gone to drama school, and I thought that made me
somehow like I was just faking it or, you know, I was lucky
every time I got another job. But I’m pretty sure
this is what I’m cut out to do for the rest of my working days. So, yeah. But it’s been, honestly,
in the past five years, probably. And do you think
actually finding your own voice, this could potentially lead you to something like directing
or something, in the future? Directing is not for me. Really? I can say that having worked with some of the best directors
in the business, I know what it takes,
and the skills you need, and being in charge
is not my strong point.

  1. She nails her accent in No Country for Old Men. Great actress.
