International Development Week 2016 – NGO Marketplace

International Development Week 2016 – NGO Marketplace

(light music) – International Development Week, we just want to raise awareness
of the Humber community about international development issues, so we have something
called a Marketplace and that’s when we invite a whole bunch of nongovernmental organizations
or nonprofit groups. Our Humber students can go around, visit the different vendors. (light music) – I’m here on behalf of
Aura Freedom International. We are an NGO based out of Toronto and our focus is on human
rights of women and girls. We’re hoping that people
will stay interested in what we’re doing. (light music) – The organization I’m
with is the United Nations World Food Programme. We’re the largest humanitarian
agency in the world. I love talking to students,
especially these ones at Humber because they
seem to have better handle on the work that we do. – Engineers without borders focuses more on how do we solve the
issues of global poverty but our focus is more on
the Sub-Saharan Africa. What we hope to gain is that
people get that experience of international development and also they learn more about the issues. We hope that this week
creates a brand awareness about our organization, but at the same time, we
keep the conversation going. – GlobalMedic was an organization that provided rapid response to emergencies like natural
disasters and whatnot and we’ve grown to
start doing other things like water programs, where
we’re giving the Rainfresh kits, so they’ll provide a family of five with enough water to drink for a year if you use the four ceramic filters but you can even stretch
that out into two years, so that’s huge. We can and it’s our job
to make a difference in the rest of the world.
