Being a PG&E Diverse Supplier Benefits Bay Area Business

PG&E’s supplier diversity
program enhances the quality of the service provided to
customers…and increases economic opportunity for local
communities. Case in point: Bay Area Traffic Solutions. This
Fremont-based company started in 2008 with a father and son team
and two trucks. Eight years later… B.A.T.S. now has 240
employees and offices in Fremont, Sacramento, Martinez
and Southern California. It’s been a mutually beneficial
partnership. [Rafael de la Cruz:]”The trust and the push
they’ve given us. The tools they’ve given us. If I want to
grow and want to be better and want to be part of the PG&E
partnership, I’m going to take it.” One tool was training from
PG&E safety professionals. B.A.T.S. took what they learned,
applied the lessons and recently played host to a client safety
expo. [Rafael de la Cruz:] “ When we are at work sites with
PG&E, they see us first. So our guys have to always react in a
professional way.” The other was receiving a scholarship to the
UCLA Management Development for Entrepreneurs Program. [Rafael
de la Cruz:] “ You really understand all of the
ins-and-outs of a business. Everything you need to do so
your business can run smoothly and successfully.” For diverse
businesses interested in working with PG&E…De La Cruz has this
message: [Rafael de la Cruz:] “PG&E works at a very high
standard. It takes a little time, but with patience, it’s
very rewarding.” How rewarding? PG&E advised B.A.T.S. to explore
providing temporary sanitation services. And now they have a
subsidiary company…run by De La Cruz’s wife, Maria. That means
more jobs. [Maria de la Cruz:] “ I’m very proud of B.A.T.S.
Thanks PG&E.” For Currents, I’m Tony Khing.
