Amazon Marketplace – Day One: Stories of Entrepreneurship | Day Martin, Stand Steady

On January 1st, 2012, I started out the new
year by going to the gym, and on my way, I got in a car accident, so not the best start to a new year. It was really minor, and after
filling in the police report, I actually continued on to the gym. However, over the next week or so, I started noticing at work
that my back would be sore, and it was totally fine on the weekends. The internet recommended
that I try a standing desk. But standing desks started at several thousand dollars apiece. I didn’t even know if I
would like a standing desk, so I started by getting
some empty cardboard boxes and I hacked myself a standing desk. “Let me just try and see if I like this.” And I did. I also got a lot of
feedback from colleagues. I was shocked at how many of them said, “Oh, yeah, maybe I should stand at work!” And I thought, “I can do this.” Just a little over a
year after the accident, I launched my product on Amazon. I’m Day Martin. I’m the CEO of Stand Steady. I started selling on Amazon
in the spring of 2013. We’re looking at two
times revenue every year, so the business doubling yearly. I own a multimillion dollar business, that’s pretty exciting growth. I have two kids, a 10-year-old
boy and a six-year-old girl, and they’re the light of my life. All day long, I’m doing work and doing the things that I
need to do to build my business, and then you come home and you
realize what it’s all about.
