30 Days To Duke 2017: Marketplace Tour

In this edition of 30 Days to Duke: Throwback we’re taking it back to last year where we gave a tour of Marketplace. You might just see a familiar face here and there, and as always shout out to my
girl Laura. Graduated, always thriving. Welcome to another great episode of 30
Days to Duke. Today we have Laura and Gerardo out at Marketplace which is where you’ll be eating most of your meals as a first year. Take it away Laura and Gerardo. Hey class of 2020, I’m here with Gerardo at Marketplace, and we’re going to be interviewing some first-year students about their favorite things to get at marketplace. Let’s go! Excuse me sir. Yes. How are you doing?
Good how about you? Good, thank you for asking! We were just wondering, what are you eating today? Me at Marketplace, I get in the omelet line and I get some eggs as well you know it’s good stuff. Great and how many times a week do you come here? Every day. Some times seven times a week. Do you like it? Most of the time, yeah. It’s good stuff. It’s delicious most the time. Now what is your go-to meal when it comes to marketplace? Well I don’t normally make it for breakfast
so dinnertime, it’s normally some cereal you know I’m a big breakfast at dinner kind of guy, so Lucky Charms, gotta go with the Lucky Charms. What a guy. Now you, do you have any comment? Um, I like the pasta. Today I have a fruit salad, grits, and eggs. Well, I’m pretty carb heavy today with some biscuits, bacon, hash brown, and some fruit. Awesome, and what is your favorite thing to get a Marketplace, not just for brunch but for dinner or lunch? I would say definitely the fruit salads
are always good, and stir-fry for dinner. I would also say stir-fry, and omelets. I think they make, sometimes they have a
good meat dish, Marketplaces does, and then sometimes I like the cereal also and then a vegetarian table is very good. Yeah. Anything from the Earth Fair section,
honestly there’s so many vegan options which is nice, especially being in the South like I definitely did not expect it coming down here. I got the smaller meal plan because I had expected to like eat outside of like you know the dining halls because I didn’t expect them to have vegan options, but they do and so now I’m saving my money and I’m still well nourished. Yeah, that’s awesome! So you are vegan? Yeah, definitely. Ok and what is your favorite thing to get on the vegan menu that Marketplace has to offer? The, what do you call it, the coconut curry. Any of the coconut curry that they have they’re pretty good. They’re not like super spicy but they’re also not like incredibly bland either. It’s like, right in the middle you know, especially for people that want to experiment with curry. It’s always the one day that I rush to get here. I just got an omelet, I got some ham, some bacon, some tomatoes… it was really good. Awesome and what’s your favorite thing to get at marketplace? I really like their pizza, it’s my favorite. I’m getting an omelet. What are you getting on your omelet? Tofu, tomatoes, and jalapeños. Mmmm, that sounds phenomenal. Now what’s your favorite thing to eat at Marketplace? I’m probably really loving the new salad bar, it’s really good. I wish I had that my freshman year, it looks amazing. What advice do you have to first your students on their meal plan? I would say definitely go to breakfast. Start your day off right. I would say manage your food points because you don’t have that many, so make them last throughout the semester. Know how your meal plan is set up, definitely read the ins and outs. Know how many swipes you have a week when you can come. Definitely use your swipes, don’t run out of food points too fast and always use equivalency. Definitely don’t buy a lot of coffee at Vondy like I did, every semester, definitely a good idea. That’s it for us here at marketplace. Now that you’ve seen what it’s all about, back to you at the studio. Byeeeeee. Wow, those renovations look
amazing! I really love the new herb wall. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to
tune in tomorrow for another great edition of 30 Days to Duke!
